On top of disrupting the Indian smartphone market with its tempting prices for what are solid devices, Xiaomi has also taken a similar route with the smart TV market in the Asian sub-continent thanks to its Mi TV lineup.

Besides India, these Mi TVs are incredibly popular in other Southeast Asian countries as well and to keep owners of the TVs happy, Xiaomi has been rolling out software updates with the latest Android 9 Pie OS.

A few days ago, Xiaomi rolled out new software updates to four of its 4K Mi TVs. Android Pie was a major part of the updates, tagging along the support for Netflix and Amazon Video Prime, among other novelties.

Prior to that, the Android TV Pie update had been pushed to the 32-inch and 43-inch Mi TV 4A models, bringing along features like built-in Chromecast support, Data Saver, and more.

While all this was happening, owners of the Mi TV 4A Pro had already received their Pie update. Today, Xiaomi is rolling out a new update to this very model.

The OTA update weighs in at 834.2MB, which is quite heavy, but you get a new November security patch while at it, probably alongside a flurry of performance optimizations and bug fixes.

Also part of the update is a new feature Xiaomi calls TV Lock. As you may have guessed, this is a security/privacy feature that lets you lock the TV using a password. You can enable or disable it whenever you feel like and also change the password at any time.

Note that this update is rolling out over the air, meaning some Mi TV 4A Pro owners may not receive it straight away. The wait could take several days, so be patient. You can keep checking if the update is available in the Settings menu.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
