macOS Sonoma 14.0 update triggered Touch ID issue? Here's what you should know

Following the macOS Sonoma 14.0 update, some users were left frustrated as they encountered several issues post-upgrade. Now, fresh reports suggest that Touch ID is acting up — it’s either functioning intermittently or, in more serious cases, not working at all. On top of that, there are users struggling to add another fingerprint to their Touch ID.

It appears that macOS Sonoma is still experiencing compatibility issues with various functionalities on Macs and MacBooks. We’ve noticed reports from users on Reddit and Apple’s official community forums, highlighting different problems. Some of the recent issues include MS Word printing bug, Time Machine backups not working, and more.

And as if the existing issues with macOS Sonoma weren’t enough, users are now reporting yet another glitch with the Touch ID. Users are complaining that the fingerprint sensor is unable to recognize the Touch ID and fails to unlock their device. In my research, I’ve found that this glitch can certainly be a major inconvenience for those who use it for several hours a day. Some users are reporting that their MacBook goes to sleep after being idle for a while, requiring them to enter the passcode every time they turn it on due to the Touch ID glitch.

Another issue users are encountering is the failure of Touch ID when switching between user profiles. Typically, users tap on a different profile, unlock it using Touch ID, and expect to access that particular profile. However, according to reports, users find themselves redirected to the previous profile instead of the selected one.

For those affected by the Touch ID glitch when switching profiles, there appears to be a potential workaround to alleviate the issue. Users can try re-selecting the desired profile in the main login screen. This action seems to effectively log users into the chosen profile, providing a temporary fix until a more permanent solution is rolled out. Moreover, restarting the device multiple times has also resolved the issue for some.

Unfortunately, Apple hasn’t officially acknowledged this specific Touch ID problem triggered by the Sonoma update. However, users affected by these Touch ID woes should keep a keen eye on future macOS updates, hoping for a resolution to this inconvenience. Moreover, they can temporarily use passcode to unlock their device.
