Imagine you are on a phone call with someone who speaks a different language. Wouldn’t it be great if you could hear their voice in your language, and vice versa? That’s exactly what Samsung’s new Live Translate feature does on the latest Galaxy S24 devices. And it is something that Google should add to its Pixel phones.
Live Translate is a new feature on the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra that lets you translate phone calls in real-time using the Galaxy AI on-device capabilities. It works with 13 languages (17 regions) and supports both voice and text translations. You can also mute your voice or the other person’s voice and let the translation do the talking for you.
Google Pixel phones, on the other hand, don’t have such a feature. The closest thing they have with its version of Live Translate which can transcribe speech to text in real-time, but only works with one language at a time. You can also use Google Translate to translate text messages, but there is no option to translate voice calls or mute voices.
This feature is very useful for travelers, business people, or anyone who wants to communicate with people from different cultures and backgrounds. You don’t need to download any third-party apps or worry about privacy or security issues. Live Translate is built into the native Galaxy phone app and works with any phone, even non-Samsung ones.
Live Translate is one of the many reasons why the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra are the best Android phones of 2024. Google should take a page out of Samsung’s Galaxy AI and bring a feature similar to Live Translate to Pixel phones, probably in a future Pixel Feature Drop or even the upcoming Pixel 9 series later this year.
