Coming to light is an Android Auto-related issue reported by users of LG’s newest flagship device G7 ThinQ (which released just last month). Users report (1,2,3,4) that Android Auto doesn’t accomplish the commanded task – either it won’t respond to the command or it gets stuck in the endless command-query loop. And to top it all, the app randomly shuts off/crashes as well.
A quick go through the following selection of user comments will give you more clarity on the matter:
I upgraded to the new LG G7 and now Android Auto is not responding. It will open on my cars display, but if I try to use voice commands they don’t work. For example if I say, “Ok Google, Play music”, it may sit there and load forever and then my phone will buzz and it will give up trying or it will do something random like call someone or set a random alarm. The app frequently crashes and runs sluggishly. Talked to Subaru and LG and it all points to Android Auto. Hope someone has an answer.
After 5-10 minutes of use w AA quits without warning in projected mode to car head. Afterward phone continuously dings with notifications and attempts to re-launch AA in projected mode but app dies and starts repeatedly over and over. Just can’t keep a stable connection to the car’s head unit.
When I plug mine in half the time Android Auto just closes. When it does “work” if I try to ask Google to do something like play a song it just randomly chooses a task. Like for example I asked it to play a song and it said, “Your alarm is set for 4am.” Really frustrating..
Having problems also with Android auto and G7. My problem is with texting and calling. When I say text someone from my contacts it will ask mobile or home. I will say mobile. Then it ask me say mobile or home again. I repeat mobile again. It ask mobile or home again. It will do this for about three times then get hung up.
In some cases, the glitchy behaviour more specifically shows up with ‘OK Google’ command involved, like for sending messages or making calls, while other functionalities like Google Maps and music remain unaffected.
Go the LG G7 ThinQ on Friday and have had nothing but problems. I cannot say “OK Google” and have it call or text anyone. It will randomly disconnect after an attempted text or in the middle of streaming music and say there is no device connected. When I unplug and plug it back in, it says my phone is an “unknown device.”
It craps out at random times and doesn’t complete the sending of the text. Other times, it doesn’t completely record what I’m saying as the text msg, or it greats something else. I’ve checked all permissions, then uninstalled app on phone, reinstalled and checked permissions, but still no luck
It appears, either Android Auto is not registering the commands or failing to accomplish them, apart from the app crashes. Whatever the case, Google hasn’t given a word on the matter yet, and complaints continue to proliferate. We hope the company comes up with some clarity on the matter soon.
