New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on October 26, 2021) follows:

The Google app for smartphones received updates recently, but this has caused some problems for Pixel users. It seems that the update breaks the dark mode of Google app.

Also, many users are complaining that the Google app has lost functionality after the update. Now, the Google search bar does not allow you to search the applications installed on the Pixel phone.

Regarding the problem it causes in the dark mode of Google app, Search view no longer adapts well to this type of configuration (1, 2, 3).

Google app now can’t search installed apps on some Pixel phones

One of the most useful features of the search bar from Google app is to be able to access all the content of the phone. This includes both your saved files and your applications.

Now, after one of the most recent updates, some Google Pixel phone users have lost this feature. The Google search bar on their phones no longer detects installed applications.

This feature of the Google app is often very used by many people. Allows quick access to an application without having to open the app drawer, and without having the application icon on the home screen.

Among the various reports of disgruntled users, a Google product expert confirmed that the issue has been escalated to the development team.

The update also breaks Google app dark mode, white background in search results

There is another problem derived from the most recent updates to Google app. In this case, it seems to ‘break’ the integration of the search bar with the system’s dark mode.

Reports state that this problem arose suddenly. It causes that, if you have the dark mode of the phone activated, when you touch the Google search bar, it will have an annoying white background.

The white background in the search bar and its results makes it very difficult to read, even straining your eyes. Also, the letters of the search results are in light gray color.

The two problems have been escalated

According to reports from affected users, both issues began to occur at the same time for a week. The second bug has also been escalated to the development team by a Google product expert.

At the moment, Google has not offered any further updates on this matter. Taking into account that the problem has already been escalated, it is expected that the solution to the bug will not take long to arrive.
