Google has kicked off 2024 with the first Pixel update, delivering the January security patch and tackling key bugs and interface stability issues.

Following the deployment of the big December Feature Drop update (2023), the January update for Google Pixel devices brings more discreet improvements under the hood. More specifically, it focuses on fixes to camera crashes and UI details. The changelog mentions the following:

Camera

  • Fix for users facing Camera crashes in certain conditions (Pixel 5, Pixel 5a (5G), Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro)

User Interface

  • Fix for users facing a flashing black screen when playing video in certain conditions (Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8)
  • Fix for users unable to exit Setup Wizard in certain conditions (Pixel Tablet)
  • Fix for Wallpaper on home screen showing black in certain conditions (Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8, Pixel Fold)
