iPhone 15 still doesn't fix night-time camera lens flare issue found on previous models

It seems that the dreaded night-time camera lens flare issue has somehow also found its way to the iPhone 15 series.

Apple’s iPhone lineup has always been at the forefront of smartphone camera technology. It consistently delivers stunning photography experiences.

However, one persistent bug seems to haunt Apple’s latest offering (iPhone 15) with this camera lens issue.

Popular tech YouTuber MKBHD, in his unboxing video, noted that the lens flare issue remains unresolved. You can see the screenshot from the video attached below:

This was surprising, given Apple’s claims about implementing a new lens coating designed to mitigate such issues.

The lens flare issue isn’t new for iPhone users. Previous models, including the iPhone 12 and iPhone 14, also suffered from this problem.

Moreover, Dave2D (a prominent tech reviewer) echoed MKBHD’s observations in his own review of the iPhone 15. His findings confirmed that the lens flare problem persists even with this latest iteration of Apple’s smartphone.

This is surely disappointing, considering the expectations people had for Apple’s purported improvements in camera technology.

Possible explanation

One possible explanation is that this lens flare issue may be related to software rather than hardware.

Early software versions often came with bugs and issues. So it’s possible that Apple’s engineers are still working on refining the camera software.

There is nothing you can do about lens flare, it is caused by reflection off the back of the lens. The problem seems to be exacerbated by the iPhones photo enhancement software.

However, it’s essential to manage expectations. Despite the possibility of a software fix, Apple’s track record in resolving similar issues with previous models suggests that users shouldn’t get their hopes too high.
