New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on December 16, 2022) follows:

Apple’s iOS 16.2 was recently made available to all users with some of the major features like Apple Music Sing, Advanced Data Protection, and Lock Screen enhancements.

However, like any other update is it also not entirely perfect and immune to various bugs and issues.

iOS 16.2 triggers AirPods ‘0% battery’ bug

That said, some iOS 16.2 users (1,2,3,4,5) are reporting an issue where the update has triggered a bug that shows 0% battery on their respective AirPods.

Same problem here, though it could be a AirPods problem and had reset them, but right now I got a 0% case still floating in the list

This happened to me as well. Not sure if this is a bug or a feature but this mostly happens when i am using only 1 airpod and the other one is in the case. It shows the case and the airpod in case as 0%

It seems that the issue also affects the cases of the AirPods. The battery status on their phones shows 0% even when they are charged.

It’s worth noting that this issue isn’t exactly new and popped up some months ago as well. However, it can’t be established if it was also owing to an update.

It is very annoying and seemingly triggers confusion about whether the accessories are charged or not. For some, the cases also stopped charging altogether.

No official word in sight

Apple hasn’t acknowledged the issue where the iOS 16.2 update has triggered a 0% battery bug in AirPods and Cases. So it may be futile at this point to expect a quick fix.

There’s also no workaround that can help fix the issue temporarily.

We’ll keep tabs on the latest developments and update this article accordingly.

Update 1 (January 23, 2023)
