Instagram hashtags can help increase your reach and following on the platform. When used appropriately, your posts will get noticed by more individuals who are interested in your business or the items you sell.

Recently, the company introduced the new ‘Top posts’ and ‘Recent top posts’ hashtag sorting algorithm on the platform. However, it looks like this change has not been well received by some.

Instagram ‘Top posts’ and ‘Recent top posts’ hashtag sorting

Multiple Instagram users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) are reportedly getting annoyed by the newly introduced ‘Top posts’ and ‘Recent top posts’ hashtag sorting.

This is because, after the recent change, one can only view the top most posts made by content creators with a decent following.

Due to this, users are unable to find the most recent posts made by other users across the globe. Also, the same posts are being shown to them repeatedly, which limits their ability to find new and interesting stuff.

This is quite unfortunate for those who like to view new art or want to get images of current events as they happen.

And to add to their troubles, new content creators or the ones with a limited following are unable to expand their reach like they earlier could. Resultantly, Instagram has now become less useful for a section of them.

Some are even speculating that the company has made this move in order to force users to pay for content promotion.

At the moment, there’s still nothing official. But we will continuously monitor this issue and update the article with the latest information.

Update 1 (August 23, 2023)

02:04 pm (IST): It appears that more users are getting (1, 2, 3, 4) this change where recent posts are not appearing or removed from hashtags and they are not liking it.
