With the rise of short-form video, Instagram introduced Reels in August 2020 and hasn’t looked back since. It provides users with a new way to creatively express themselves, develop their following, and interact with their followers.

Whether you’re a business looking to showcase your products, or an individual looking to share your passions and hobbies, Reels can be a powerful tool for building your online presence.

Instagram does not offer a direct download option for Reels and users have to use third-party applications in order to download them. But this is set to change.

It’s been leaked that Instagram is working on a feature that will let you enable the option to ‘Turn on downloading’, thus allowing others to download your Reels right from within their app.

This has been a heavily demanded feature by Instagram users for a while now. It also makes sense given that their competitor, TikTok, has had this function for some time.

If @Instagram wants to actually compete with @tiktok_us people should be able to download reels and posts like they can on TikTok. Otherwise you’ll only see TikTok ontent on Instagram reels and not the other way around.

This feature has not yet been announced by Instagram, so no one is sure when exactly it will go live. So for now, it’s a waiting game for everyone.

Rest assured, we’ll keep tabs on this and let you know when every Instagram user will finally be able to ‘Turn on downloading’ Reels and update the article accordingly.
