New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on August 16, 2022) follows:

On Instagram, by default, you can see if any of your friends or people you follow have liked a post. This is a really cool feature as you might discover that your new friend has similar interests to yours.

Instagram mutual likes removed or missing

However, many Instagram users are reporting an issue where mutual likes have been removed or missing on all posts for them (1,2,3,4,5,6,7).

This issue seems to be associated with posts from accounts with a large number of followers. As on these posts, users can only see the total number of likes but not the mutual likes.

This is quite a frustrating issue as Instagrammers like to see what their favorite celebrity or friend might have liked, which is the essence of a social media platform.

Recently, Instagram has tried some controversial improvements that have not gone down well with its community. So seeing one of their favorite features go missing has left many users enraged.

Many users tried logging out and back into their accounts, reinstalling the app, and toggling the ‘Hide Like and View Counts’ option but to no avail.

Some users claim that this only happened after a recent app update. However, it’s possible that the change came into effect after a server-side tweak or bug.

Users on Android can try sideloading an older APK file to see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn’t, then it would suggest that the change is indeed via a server-side update.

Unfortunately, Instagram is yet to comment on this issue. As a result, impacted users will have to wait an undisclosed amount of time before they can get any clarification.

In any case, we’ll keep track of the situation and will post an update if and when there are any further developments regarding the matter, so stay tuned to PiunikaWeb.
