Hunt: Showdown is a multiplayer FPS set in a dark world where there are nightmare monsters everywhere, which you have to hunt to get rewards.

As in all FPS games, there are several mechanics that the player must know how to handle in order to be the best. One of these mechanics is the crouching.

However, in the past few days, Hunt: Showdown players discovered a crouch bug that has the potential to break games. This causes players to be exposed without their knowledge while trying to hide (1, 2, 3).

More specifically, according to the weapon the player is using, the character will be at different heights while crouching. But, the player will not be able to tell as this is not reflected on the camera (1, 2, 3).

One of the reports explains the situation very clearly. It emphasizes the three positions the player can adopt while crouching in Hunt: Showdown.

there’s basically 3 stances of crouched your character can be. Guns down (Hunter mode only), hipfire (normal stance in Gunslinger and RMB in Hunter mode) and ADS. And here where the serious problems occur. Those instances are not normalized across all weapons and can vary even with different variants of the same weapon. Altering the height of the model of your character, but not your camera height (basically making an enemy see you when you cant see them when you’re behind a low cover).

So, the positions are Guns down, hipfire and ADS. Basically, the problem is that the same character adopts different heights in the same crouch position, depending on the equipped weapon.

This might not be that bad for some, but the bug causes these height changes to not be reflected in the player’s camera. It can only be noticed by the enemies around.

There’s no way to know if you’re more crouched or more straight up and there’s no way to trust the cover that you crouched behind cause your head may be póling out like you’re standing up.

Possible solution? standardize every stance to a fixed head height or make the camera follow the height of the stance you’re in.

This means that, for example, the player can be crouched hidden behind some element of the map, without realizing that the body of the character is actually visible to the enemies. So, it’s a clear disadvantage.

A serious issue with no official acknowledgment yet

At this time, there is no official acknowledgment from Crytek of this important bug. Therefore, it only remains to wait for them to confirm that they are aware and offer updates on a fix.
