Hulu is one of the popular streaming service providers available on various devices including Apple TV, Fire TV, Xbox, Chromecast, Roku, and so on.

Initially launched in 2007, Hulu has gradually grown its subscribers into millions. The reason being its quality service and a wide range of content.

However, users of the service also encounter some issues oftentimes and we have a dedicated bugs tracker for Hulu where you can find issues that are reported, acknowledged, or pending to be resolved.

Speaking of the latest one, Hulu subscribers are now taking to social platforms such as Reddit and official Hulu forum to complain about a new bug where Hulu keeps freezing or screen darkens after every ad on Xbox.

Here are some reports for reference:

Xbox one as well. Continuously freezing on about every other ad break. Then whats worse is when you reboot the app, its starts your show before the ad break. Leading to another chance of it freezing again. (Source)

I opened the Hulu app on my phone and it played through the ads without issue. Once I got past the ads I opened my Xbox app and it resumed after the ads and it stopped getting stuck during other ad breaks. (Source)

In particular, Hulu subscribers on Xbox or Fire TV are complaining that when watching content, the screen automatically darkens after every single ad, and the app freezes.

This is happening on Xbox and FireTV, while a user said that there is no such issue when watching on Roku TV or Hulu app in mobile. Meanwhile, some Amazon Fire Stick and Nvidia Shield users are also affected.

We haven’t come across a similar problem with any other devices besides the above-mentioned, so it’s hard to tell whether other subscribers are affected too.

Meanwhile, these reports are not new and in fact, Hulu is already aware of this behavior. The company’s support team said back in July 2020 that the issue was under investigation.

But going by the influx of reports in recent times, it suggests the issue was never resolved.

Moreover, there’s no workaround available at the moment besides usual re-installing which is also not helping to get over this bug. All in all, subscribers will have to wait for devs to fix it.

We hope that these issues get sorted out as soon as possible and Hulu subscribers can once again enjoy their content as usual without any interruption.

That said, we will keep you informed on the further development of this story as and when anything new comes to our notice.
