New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 2, 2020) follows:

2019 was full of fascinating Android devices and Huawei Mate 30 Pro was certainly one of them. Despite being one of the beefiest (and prettiest) phones of the previous year, it is severely handicapped due to the lack of Google Apps.

The phone powered by the chart-topping HiSilicon Kirin 990 chipset and sports one of the most refined glass-on-glass design we have seen around, complete with curved edges and zero bezels. The massive 6.53 inch screen is fueled by a 4,500 mAh battery.

Not too long ago, the phone received the December security patch. Other than the updated patch level, the update brought a bunch of enhancements and improvements. The fixes were centered around the stock camera as well as network connectivity.

A second update with the same December security patch level is currently rolling out for for Huawei Mate 30 Pro. Weighs in at a rather small (151 MB), it seems like more of the hotfix on top of the preliminary security update.

As you can see, the OTA bumps the software version from 10.0.0.181 to 10.0.0.182. According to the changelog, this update is mainly centered around the camera (once again).

Among the issues that this update fixes is a camera preview problem that has been bugging some users. Huawei also addresses the glitchy vibration thingy. The same update is also available on the non-Pro version, aka Huawei Mate 30.

Huawei Mate 30 is receiving this update as well

Huawei’s woes with the US government last year made it impossible for the Chinese tech giant to incorporate Google apps onto its devices. The Huawei Mate 30 family was the unfortunate casualty of this situation.

While the scenario seems to have eased up a little, it is not entirely resolved. This also forced Huawei to switch gears and focus onto the in-house alternative operating system for their smartphone lineup.

Update 1 (January 20, 2020)

Huawei is pushing out EMUI 10.0.0.195 system update to the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro. The new update optimizes Bluetooth connection and touchscreen operation experience among other things.
