Games like Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon offer deep and highly detailed storylines and in-game worlds. It’s only obvious that these larger-than-life stories hide some deep mysteries within their gaps. So, in the spirit of Halloween, let’s dive into some creepy Nintendo theories.

Nintendo has been creating games for the past four decades. Some of these games have a history of harboring dark theories in their stories, with some well-known in the community and others entirely unheard of. Without further ado, let’s delve into these theories.

Spookiest theories about Nintendo games for your Halloween

Nintendo games have been the subject of many creepy and crazy fan theories over the years, making them perfect for the Halloween season. Here are some of the most interesting ones. However, please take these theories with a grain of salt, as there is no official proof supporting any of them. They are purely for amusement on Halloween and do not influence or contribute to the official Nintendo lore.

Pokemon Lavender Town Theory:

Nintendo Halloween

Lavender Town is a village in the Pokémon games that serves as a Pokémon graveyard. It is home to the Pokémon Tower, a seven-story tower filled with gravestones and mourning trainers.

The tower is haunted by the ghost of a Marowak that was killed while defending its baby from Team Rocket. The background music of Lavender Town is renowned for adding to the town’s creepy atmosphere and in the 2010s, it gave rise to the ‘Lavender Town Syndrome’ urban legend.

According to the legend, the high-pitched tones in the original Lavender Town theme caused physical harm or even suicide among young Japanese children who played the first versions of the game, Pokémon Red and Blue, after their release in Japan on February 27th, 1996.

Luigi is Dead in Luigi’s Mansion:

Nintendo Halloween

The “Luigi is Dead” theory suggests that Luigi is dead in Luigi’s Mansion and walks its halls as a ghost himself. According to this theory, Luigi is either in denial or ignorant of his own death, believing himself to be still alive, and has validated this in his own mind.

In Luigi’s Mansion, there is a moment where Luigi’s shadow appears to be hanging from the ceiling, which some fans have interpreted as a reference to suicide. the fact that Luigi is constantly being attacked by ghosts has led some fans to speculate that Luigi is actually dead and walking the halls of the mansion as a ghost.

The Animal Crossing Cult:

Nintendo Halloween

The “Animal Crossing Cult” theory is a fan theory that suggests that the animals in Animal Crossing are actually part of a cult that is trying to brainwash the player. The animals in Animal Crossing often say strange and cryptic things that some fans have interpreted as being part of a larger conspiracy.

Some fans have pointed to the fact that Tom Nook, one of the main characters in the game, seems to have a mysterious past and may be involved in the cult. The game’s peaceful and idyllic atmosphere has led some fans to speculate that it is actually a facade for something much darker.

With their promises of a brighter future, the animals lure in new residents. Then trap them in the village with mortgage and other responsibilities. Slowly influencing their thoughts and turning them into permanent residents aka ‘villagers’.

The Villain in Pokemon Red & Blue is Actually You:

According to the “The Villain in Pokemon Red & Blue is Actually the Player” theory, the player character in Pokemon Red & Blue is actually the villain of the game. The player is unknowingly/knowingly causing harm to the world by capturing and battling Pokemon.

The player character is often portrayed as being ruthless and willing to do whatever it takes to win, even if it means causing harm to other Pokemon. The mystery of Blue’s missing Raticate has led some fans to speculate that the player character actually killed it during a battle on the S.S. Anne.

Metroid Fusion Nightmare

Nightmare is a boss that appears in both Metroid: Other M and Metroid Fusion. It is considered one of the most tragic characters in the franchise. But not only tragic, it is also the creepiest boss in the games.

Nightmare is a biomechanical creature that was created by the Galactic Federation for use in their bioweapons program. In Metroid Fusion, Nightmare is the result of an experiment to create a bioweapon that could manipulate gravity.

The experiment went wrong, and Nightmare became uncontrollable, leading the Galactic Federation to abandon the project. Under the hi-tech armor of Nightmare lies the most horrific aspect of it. When Samus destroys the face plate of Nightmare’s armor, it reveals the face of a horrifying alien baby.

Things get even creepier in Fusion. In the game, when Samus damages Nightmare’s face, it starts to melt. Making the fans theorize that the original Nightmare had died in Other M, but the federation wasn’t ready to let it go. They used biotech to resurrect the tragic creature once again. But as Samus breaks its armor, the tech fails and the undead body of the creature starts to decompose.

In the end, all of these are just theories. They are only for amusement and are hopefully interesting to read to enhance your Halloween spirit. These theories have no influence or correspondence with the official lore.
