HBO Max is one of the most popular streaming services available. It is the favorite of many, thanks to a wide catalog made up of the iconic HBO licenses and new exclusive content.

Drive My Car, the Japanese drama, is one of the movies you can watch on HBO Max. However, many users are facing issues with subtitles when trying to enjoy it.

According to multiple reports, the Drive My Car closed captions are not working correctly or missing on HBO Max (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11).

The behavior of Drive My Car closed captions is reportedly erratic on HBO Max. In some cases, closed captions are not working at all, but only in this movie (1, 2, 3, 4).

Drive My Car Captions Not Working!

I tried restarting the app, using it on both my TV and my phone, different accounts, different settings, and almost everything I could but about halfway through the movie the captions stopped working. Is this on my end or HBO’s? Help!?

This happened to me too today! I watched the first 2 hours, then paused it because I had meetings. Went back to finish the last hour and subtitles aren’t working but ONLY on this movie. They’re working fine on some other shows I tried. Unfortunately I don’t speak Japanese so pretty irked that I can’t watch the last hour!

In other cases, the subtitles are out of sync with a delay of around 5-10 seconds, which can be quite confusing while watching the movie.

Meanwhile, the subtitles start working fine in the movie for some users, but stop after a while.

I’m having the same issue – the subtitles just stopped at the halfway point of the movie. I tried watching another movie to be sure. It’s a problem with Drive My Car.

Also, I had to click on movie titles several times for them to open and start playing. The app is buggy today!

No error messages. Using a Roku TV. The subtitles were working fine, until we paused Drive My Car at 1:15:57. Then they went away. We tried to reset them, leave app & return, everything. We could get them to work fine for the first part, but not once we got there.

The HBO Max team is already aware of the issue and is working to resolve it. However, there is no estimated date of arrival for a fix yet.
