Halo Infinite is the latest installment in the iconic saga of FPS games. It is currently available for Xbox consoles and for Windows OS devices.

One of the biggest draws of current-gen consoles (Xbox Series X/S and PS5) and modern GPUs is support for Ray Tracing technology.

Halo Infinite is one of the games that will enjoy the benefits of Ray Tracing. At the time of its launch it was impossible to implement it, so players had to wait a bit longer.

Halo Infinite developers promised an update that will bring ray tracing in the near future. The matter was even determined as a top priority for 343 Industries last year.

But, months later, there is no news of Ray Tracing support coming to the game. Not only that, but some players even feel that the developers completely forgot about it (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

Halo Infinite Ray Tracing still missing after months of waiting

Some Halo Infinite players are also wondering what has happened to the promised Ray Tracing support. After all, it’s one of Microsoft’s flagship games for Xbox consoles (1, 2).

Are we still getting assassinations and ray-tracing?

I know they have been talked about a lot. I know it’s just more to add to the pile. I loved halo 5 and played that with my nephew this weekend and have to say, infinite does not live up to its name.

Its funny in part because of the raging dumpster fire that 343 calls “upper management” but also because of just how badly they seem to fumble… everything. Still no sight of co-op, forge or even ray tracing…

They premiere Halo Infinite gameplay and when it sparks massive backlash and disappointment, Geenberg goes “Did you watch it in 4k? You guys need to watch it in 4k, it looks great” Lol. If they’re not treating their fans like cash dispensers, they’re talking to fans like they’re all Simple Jack.

The main problem is that 343 Industries stated in October of last year that the implementation of Ray Tracing in the game was a top priority, and that they were even working closely with AMD to achieve it.

However, since then, the company has not released any updates related to the status of Ray Tracing in Halo Infinite, which has many players confused.

What is Ray Tracing? This is how it looks like on Halo Infinite

Ray Tracing is a graphic technology designed to maximize light effects, shadows and reflections.

Lighting is a key aspect in the visual section of a game. A good lighting engine can greatly improve the overall look of a scene, while maintaining the same quality of textures on the map.

So, many Halo Infinite players have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the feature to get the most out of their console and PC hardware. However, the lack of news in months has disappointed them.

In the following video you can see an example of what Halo Infinite would look like if it had Ray Tracing:

The reason for the lack of Ray Tracing in the Halo Infinite launch

Apparently, the main reason why Halo Infinite came to market without Ray Tracing is the short time between the release of DirectX 12 Ultimate and the launch of the game.

At the moment, this is all that is known about the matter. 343 Industries hasn’t released any new details or hints about Ray Tracing in Halo Infinite, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen any time soon.

We will update this story once new developments related to the matter emerge.
