A couple of months ago, Google shipped a redesigned Google Weather experience only to its own Pixel devices. Now, surprisingly, that new version is beginning to arrive on more Android brands, starting with Samsung.

More Android brands are receiving the Google Weather redesign

With the redesign, Google sought to improve the user experience of its Weather app by focusing on simplification. More specifically, they got rid of the three-tab UI in favor of a single feed, animated by an illustration starring the mascot Froggy. The new UI also includes easy access to key weather data such as the short and medium-term forecast (current and for the next 10 days).

Other weather data that you can easily check in the new UI after scrolling includes humidity, pressure, wind, sunrise and sunset times, precipitation, among others.

It should be noted that the UI is a little different on tablets to adapt to the large screen format, using a two-column layout to display even more useful information. Weather forecasts are powered by Google in the US and some European countries, while using Weather.com data in other areas.

As spotted by 9to5Google, there are users of brands other than Pixel receiving the Google Weather redesign. More specifically, it is already present on some Samsung smartphones and tablets, but it seems that the rollout is going at a slow pace.

Widgets still exclusive to Google Pixel phones

It is not yet known when the redesign will reach even more brands, but it is possible that we will have to wait at least a few weeks. That said, Google Pixel phones still maintain some exclusive Google Weather features, such as widgets with Material You support.

So, since non-Pixel phones are not receiving the Material You widgets, there are two ways to directly access Google Weather:

  • Accessing Weather on Google app and setting up a shortcut on your home screen
  • Setting up the ‘At a Glance’ widget to directly open Google Weather by tapping it

Have you already received the Google Weather redesign on your device? Do you use a Pixel device or another brand? Tell us about your experience in the comments box below.
