Lately, multiple users have been reporting an issue where Google Search is filtering out Wikipedia results on both Android and iOS.

Ever since its inception, Google Search has transformed the way people seek and consume information by providing rapid access to a wide range of topics and subjects.

The platform is also used by academicians and students to collect valuable information for their studies and research purposes.

However, by looking at the reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7), it appears that several users are experiencing difficulties collecting information from Wikipedia.

And this is because the search engine allegedly keeps filtering out results from the website. Some iOS users claim that the Wikipedia page panel does appear if they type in the search bar.

However, once they press enter, the expected results are not displayed. On the other hand, those who are signed in to their Google account are also facing a similar problem.

They assert that the regional Wikipedia articles fail to surface in the results. In addition to this, appending ‘wiki’ to their search query yields results from Germany and Italy, which is quite intriguing.

But when they log out of their account, the Wikipedia link starts appearing in the top three positions like before. Sadly, the issue pops up even when one has disabled the ‘Safe Search’ feature.

It’s noteworthy that people are experiencing similar issues on the ‘Fandom’ and ‘Merriam Webster’ domains and in different regions (1,2,3) as well.

Everytime i use google search(iphone 11) wikipedia doesn’t appear on top and when i search “wiki” i get wikipedia for european languages even though i live in asia.

But luckily, one can utilize the platform as intended when logged in to another account or accessing it via Incognito mode or a desktop machine.

The issue has been persistent for about a week and remains unresolved until now. As a result, individuals have taken to the Google Community forums to voice their discontent.

When I google things that commonly show their Wikipedia article first from my iPhone, at best I get results that are not in my native language further down the list.

Although it’s quite possible that some user accounts might have been randomly selected for trials involving diverse modifications to the search interface.
