Google Search users have recently started reporting an issue where the results are showing in purple instead of blue. Surprisingly, the links are appearing in purple color even when one has not previously visited them.

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9), some people have been experiencing this problem for the past few weeks across different web browsers and devices.

A subset of users claim that the issue pops up only when they are logged in to their account while using Google Search.

They assert to have tried using the portal on both Chrome and Safari, but unfortunately could not get the results displayed in the normal scheme.

However, if they sign out of their account or use the Google app for iOS, the search results appear normally.

Has anyone else had this issue? The phone one day decided to display all links regardless if I visited it or not to the pink/purple color and not the default blue. Driving me crazy to change it.

An individual contends to be experiencing this issue only on their Samsung Galaxy S23 for the past few days.

Luckily, they can use the web portal normally on their Samsung Tab, and that too when they are signed in with the same Google account.

Although, another S23 Ultra owner alleges that they have been facing this problem ever since the latest firmware update.

They have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the most recent and an earlier version of Chrome to get rid of the glitch, but to no effect.

It’s noteworthy that they are encountering similar issues on their S21 Ultra as well. However, they can use the site without any hiccups on their PC.

Potential reason

A Diamond Product Expert says that the difference in the appearance of search results is likely due to a Google Live Experiment.

They contend that the company tests out interface variations for Search and Image Search with random accounts. Sometimes, the changes may be subtle, while other times they can be quite noticeable.

Also, they assert that these experiments are short-lived and last only for a week or two.

Potential workaround

Fortunately, you can revert to the old color scheme for search results by deleting cookies from your browser’s data.
