Google Podcasts is a popular and widely used free podcast service available on multiple platforms that include Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, and Chrome OS.

With Google Podcasts, you can listen to your favorite shows, subscribe to podcasts, and manage your listening activity.

However, recent reports from some users suggest that this service is currently having an issue. Users say their podcasts are automatically marked as completed when they disconnect from a Bluetooth device.

Those affected note that when they pause any podcast in the middle or so and disconnect from Bluetooth, the Podcasts app automatically marks it as completed.

Moreover, if they have auto-play enabled on the app, it starts playing the next podcast after marking the last one as completed.

Here are some reports for reference:

Same problem here on Note 9. Bluetooth in the car as soon as it’s disconnected it incorrectly marks the episode as played and advances to the next episode. Very frustrating! It must not be an Android 12 issue but a problem with the latest update of the Google podcast app. Please fix this Google! (Source)

Ok, I just watched the app as I turned off my car. As soon as the Bluetooth disconnected the episode I was on was reset to the start. I hit play to see what would happen, and it automatically switched to the next podcast in my queue and started playing. (Source)

While some say it’s happening after they upgraded to Android 12, others believe that it’s the latest Podcasts update that’s causing this issue. However, the root cause of this bug is unknown as of now.

As most of the reports are from those running older Android versions, it makes it clear that this issue has nothing to do with Android 12 update and it is likely a glitch in the Google Podcasts app.

Meanwhile, many affected users pointed out that this happens mostly when they disconnect from their cars’ Bluetooth and occasionally appears on speakers or earphones too.

It is really frustrating for most users since they are unable to complete a podcast as it gets marked as completed even though it’s not.

Affected users can, however, be glad the issue has been escalated to the Google Search team for further investigation. So we wait for an official word from Google.

I’ve referred this issue to the Google Search team for investigation. (Source)

We hope that Google fixes the bug as soon as possible. We will update this space with new information, so stay tuned.
