In recent days, Google Play users are facing an annoying issue that does not allow them to redeem digital movie codes through the platform.

According to multiple reports, when users try to redeem the code for a movie on Google Play, the system incorrectly shows it as expired. So, they can’t enjoy their bought movies.

Google Play movie digital codes incorrectly showing as expired

The reports of affected users describe that the digital code or token automatically generated when validating a movie purchased on the sites of its producers cannot be redeemed on Google Play.

Movie Digital Codes showing as Expired on Google Play even though show valid on studio site!

Movie codes from Blu-rays show up valid on studio sites (Warner Bros, Sony Pictures and Fox) – once validated on studio site, a Google Play redemption token is generated. This token is coming up as expired on Google Play when I attempt to redeem my digital copy of the movie. This has literally happened with every blu-ray movie I received and purchased over Christmas break.

Most of the reports agree on that the aforementioned issue began to occur in the movies purchased after the Christmas season. So, users have been suffering from this bug for several days.

I am also having the same issue, I have a number of codes retrieved from Blu-ray movie gifts over Christmas and additional bluray purchases during the Christmas/New Year sales. None of the titles are redeeming on Google Play, they are coming up expired. As mentioned by others, the studio sites validate the codes and generate a unique Google Play token to enter on Google Play which is where it is coming up as expired.

Google team is already aware

Fortunately, affected users may not have to wait long for a fix to arrive. A few hours ago, a Community Manager on the Google Play support forums confirmed that the glitch was escalated.
