Picture-in-picture (PiP) is an amazingly convenient feature for multitasking on your Google Pixel phone – and it seems like YouTube might be offering broader access. For years, PiP has been accessible on Android, but YouTube created restrictions depending on location and whether you had a Premium subscription. In 2022, things loosened up for free users in the US. Now there are reports that PiP might be rolling out to more free YouTube users in other regions.

Word is spreading that PiP is suddenly working for free YouTube accounts in parts of Europe. Reddit threads (1,2,3) are buzzing with excitement, suggesting a possible change in policy. It’s a bit confusing since YouTube hasn’t made an official statement, and their support page still mentions the old rules. In the US, non-Premium users can enjoy PiP, except for certain content like music videos. Similar limitations may apply to users globally, including potential restrictions on copyrighted content.

Why is this such a big deal for Google Pixel users? Imagine watching your favorite YouTube channels in that little floating window while you check messages, browse the web, or do anything else on your Pixel phone. This hints at a whole new level of freedom for how you use YouTube on your device.

There may be some catches – music videos or certain copyrighted content might still be off-limits for free accounts. And we’ll have to wait for official word from YouTube to be sure. But the possibility of expanded PiP access is a major win for anyone who loves YouTube on their Google Pixel. Stay tuned, and we might see this fantastic upgrade rolling out soon!
