Original story (published on June 22, 2023) follows:
Google Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold devices offer users a unique experience by combining advanced features, powerful performance, and sleek designs to cater to their day-to-day needs.
Both the Google Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold run on Android 13, offering users a familiar and customizable interface as well as access to a wide range of apps and services via the Google Play Store.
But currently, users are noticing a shortcoming with both gadgets.
Google Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold display blank borders around unoptimized apps
According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6), multiple Google Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold owners are facing an issue where blank borders appear around unoptimized apps.
Unlike other Android tablets, where the app content is usually stretched out to fill the screen, the new Pixel tablet displays some apps with empty borders surrounding the content.
Similarly, on the Pixel Fold, unoptimized apps appear abnormally on the screen. Notably this issue pops up on popular apps like Authy, Amplifi, AMEX, FedEx, Nothing X, Venmo, and more.
And this undoubtedly ends up spoiling the overall user experience.
One of those affected says it’s frustrating downloading an app just to find out that it doesn’t work properly.
On the other hand, another person claims that they are forced to use apps in the portrait mode.
Let’s not just shame Twitter. FedEx, Venmo, Authy, Nothing X, Amplifi, AMEX, and more. Optimize your apps.

Some speculate that there is a low probability that companies will optimize apps for tablets as the majority of their user base uses mobile phones.
But luckily, users can access the platforms whose apps are currently unoptimized through a web browser. This way, you can view content on sites like Twitter without any visual discrepancies or inconvenience.
So, this approach can also be extended to other unoptimized apps that have web versions available.
In the meantime, we will keep an eye on this issue and update this story as soon as something noteworthy comes up.
