New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on October 13, 2021) follows:

Google Pixel smartphones are known for their clean stock Android operating system, powerful camera hardware, and unique design. These few things make users shift towards Pixel devices.

Pixels are meant to satisfy their owners in every way and there’s hardly any aspect they fall short in. Moreover, lately, Google is doing a good job in the mid-range segment with Pixel A series.

However, availability of the latest Pixel 5a is limited to the U.S. and Japan. Of course, it would be great if Google made this phone available in more markets, but hey, we don’t make the rules.

Furthermore, the next-gen Pixel devices — Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro — are also in line for an October 19 launch with some exclusive features including Google’s self made Tensor chip.

With the growing Pixel community, Google started ‘Pixel Superfans’, a group where you can find all the latest feeds about Pixel devices, share your experience, discuss the trending topics, etc.

However, some users are reporting an issue when applying for Pixel Superfans group. As per reports, if users want to join this exclusive Pixel community, they must have a Facebook account.

So, users who don’t use Facebook won’t be eligible for the group. And there seems to be no way out besides creating a Facebook account.

I never had facebook and I was disappointed too when i saw the join button in the email pointed to facebook. But i kept getting join superfans emails then on 3rd email they sent me a link to fill my details with Google products i am using\used(pixels, stadia, chromescast with google tv, google home etc) so far and then once submitted it still redirected me to join the FB group. Presumably Google don’t actually run the group and it’s subcontracted to a PR agency who rely on Facebook for their campaigns. (Source)

Most of those trying to be part of the Pixel Superfans Group are furious at this arrangement, as can be seen from their rants on the Reddit thread shared above.

Meanwhile, the tech giant has not yet acknowledged this concern and we await the company’s word on the matter.

This should be changed if the company wants to make Pixel Superfans Group a great platform where users don’t need to rely on Facebook in order to be a part of the group.

Heck, it would even make more sense allowing anyone who owns a Pixel phone join the group using their email address regardless of their social media affiliations.

Hopefully, Google looks into this sooner than later, at least before the launch of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro handsets later this month.
