The monthly Google Pixel update for June has been available for a few days now. With each monthly update, users expect bug fixes and new features.

Unfortunately, sometimes updates also bring new problems to fix. Currently, some Pixel users are facing issues affecting widgets, system memory management, and home screen rotation after the June update (1, 2, 3, 4).

Google Pixel reloading or unresizable widgets

Google Pixel widgets are behaving erratically for some after the latest patch, as they are reloading every time the user returns to the home screen from an app.

Pixel 6 June OTA Blank Widgets

Home screen widgets are blank and take time to load after watching a full screen video in landscape mode using YouTube or Chrome. I believe this started after June update since I don’t recall seeing it happen before. I sent feedback to Google. Can you guys test and see if you’re seeing the same bug? I checked my wife’s S22 and when I go to the home screen the widgets are properly loaded.

Also, the Google Pixel widgets are now even unresizable for some.

[June Update] Some widgets cannot be resized in a more compact way anymore.
It has happened just after June update. Before the update I was able to set 4×1 size for google keep widget, and 4×2 size for photo widget. Anyone else have this issue?

Apps not storing or killed from memory

The new update also reportedly brought a memory management problem. Apparently, Android 12 on Google Pixels is currently aggressively ‘killing’ background processes.

This could also be the cause of the widgets reloading when the user returns to the home screen. Once the system removes apps or widgets from memory, they need to be reloaded.

They changed how ram and app caches are managed with this update. Most apps and services seem to be killed completely very easily now.

Screen rotation issues too

Lastly, some users are also reporting issues with the screen rotation system.

Apparently, when a Google Pixel user leaves an app that was in landscape (horizontal) mode, the home screen will erratically switch between landscape and vertical (portrait) modes for a few seconds.

If I am in landscape mode on an app, and swipe home the home screen shows portrait mode, then goes to landscape, and back to portrait mode. I have disabled home screen rotation in the Pixel Launcher settings. Toggling the auto-rotate feature in the quick settings also doesn’t affect this behavior.

Problems recently escalated to Google team

In a post that brings together all the issues mentioned above, a Google Product Expert confirmed that the issues have been escalated to the Google team.
