Google has introduced a new feature for its Recorder app for Pixel devices: Auto language detect. The app, which allows users to record and transcribe audio, now can automatically detect which language is spoken and transcribe it accordingly. This feature is useful if you speak or listen to multiple languages, as you won’t have to manually change the transcription language every time.

The Auto language detect feature is available in version 4.2.20231003.575121345 of Recorder according to the release notes, which is rolling out via the Play Store. You can select ‘Detect language’ from the Settings > Transcription language menu. However, the app notes that speaker labels will not be applied while enabling this feature.

Besides Auto language detect, the Recorder app on Pixel phones also added two other features in recent updates: Favorites and Audio channels. The Favorites feature lets you star your recordings from the toolbar at the top of a recording. This will create a ‘Favorites’ section at the top of the app, where you can easily access your marked recordings. The Audio channels feature allows you to choose between Mono or Stereo for recordings.

That’s not all though. Google is expected to bring the new ‘Summarize’ feature to the Recorder app in December. It will provide you with a bullet-point recap of your recordings. This is especially useful for those who have a lot of meetings or want to quickly skim through important points.
