New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on August 16, 2022) follows:

Today a stable Android 13 update has gone live exclusively for all the eligible Google Pixel devices. For others, the update will be rolled out slowly in the coming months.

There are several new features brought through this update, including an app-specific language selection, end-to-end encryption for group conversations, and a secure clipboard.

Google Pixel menu or home screen freezes after Android 13

Multiple Google Pixel users are facing an issue after the Android 13 update where the menu or home screen freezes when they attempt to pull up the Recents menu (1,2,3,4,5).

The frequency of this happening is higher when using picture-in-picture mode for apps like YouTube and Google Maps as the device freezes when swiping up to go to the home screen while still in PiP mode.

The whole device freezes for a fair few minutes due to this and users are not even able to restart it as well.

Multi tasking. I use this a lot and it always freezes. Was wondering if others use multitasking but it has been a problem for at least a year now. Open a bunch of apps then hold the nav bar and push up for recent apps. Sometimes the white gesture nav bar gets stuck. Other times the whole thing freezes

It’s happening a lot less for me but still happening. Kind of a ridiculous bug to be having though. How are you going to have ongoing navigation problems on what is supposed to be the “smoothest android experience”

This issue has been affecting Google Pixel owners since the beta testing stage. Now that the stable is out, they are left disappointed that this bug still hasn’t been addressed.

Potential workarounds

While Google developers are yet to comment on the issue, some users have suggested a few workarounds that fixed this issue for them. Firstly, turn off picture-in-picture mode.

Secondly, use the navigation buttons instead of gestures in order to avoid the bug.

I use navigation buttons and have never experienced it. Unfortunate, but maybe a work around?

The more feedback Google receives about the bug, the faster they will become aware of its existence and can start working on a fix, so be sure to share your feedback with them.

We will update this story once new events arise on the matter.
