A recent report from a user on X (formerly Twitter) has revealed that the Google Pixel Phone app is now displaying call logs from WhatsApp. This integration offers a unified view of all incoming and outgoing calls, regardless of whether they were made through the traditional cellular network or via WhatsApp’s internet-based calling feature.
The user, with the handle @Kishore9196, shared their experience of seeing WhatsApp call logs seamlessly integrated into the Pixel’s Phone app. In a follow up tweet, they confirmed that they spotted the feature on their Pixel 6a. This behavior is reminiscent of how WhatsApp calls are logged on iOS devices, providing a centralized location for users to access their call history.
As noted by Mishaal Rahman, this functionality has been available since Android 9. The operating system introduced an option for third-party calling apps to integrate their call logs into the system’s call log, effectively consolidating all call records into a single location.
However, it is worth noting that not all users have reported experiencing this integration on their Pixel devices. We could not replicate the same behavior on our Pixel 7a, despite running the latest versions of the WhatsApp beta and the Phone app beta. Similarly, Mishaal notes that they couldn’t spot it either. Even others responding under the post say they can’t see it.
The integration of WhatsApp call logs into the Pixel Phone app can be seen as a useful feature for users who frequently rely on WhatsApp for voice and video calls. By consolidating all call records into a single location, users can easily track their communication history, regardless of the app or service used for the call.
It is possible that this integration is a server-side update or an experimental feature that is being rolled out gradually to a subset of users. Google and WhatsApp may be testing this functionality before a wider rollout to ensure a seamless experience for all users. But considering that only one user has publicly claimed to have received it, we’d suggest taking the news with a pinch of salt.
