Over the years, the Google Pixel lineup has retained a little tradition, call it waggish if you like, that sees the search giant give new-generation Pixel phones a taste of live wallpapers from the past.

Sure, not all of them make the cut, but I’d like to imagine Google carefully selects the ones to carry over with each new Pixel phone. One such live wallpaper is the Marvelous Marble wallpaper, which is available across the Pixel lineup.

The Google Pixel Marvelous Marble wallpaper gives you a view of the earth with not just realtime weather, but also things like clouds and lighting data and even the positioning of the sun.

For space junkies, the Marble wallpaper lets you enjoy the view of the earth from a high orbit by simply unlocking your Pixel phone, which should be quite scintillating. However, a bug that was first reported in 2018 left the live wallpaper unable to show real-time clouds and lightning data.

Instead of showing the live updates, the Pixel Marvelous Marble wallpaper weather conditions remain static throughout the day. This issue was first reported on Android Pie devices but persisted even after the update to Android 10 was released.

But after over a year of working on it, Google has finally marked the bug as “fixed”, although this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this from the search giant. Back in January, the bug was also marked as fixed in the issue tracker, but later it appeared that some units still had the issue.

Hopefully, the bug is addressed for good this time around. But even so, you’ll have to wait for some time before the issue is actually addressed in “a future build.”

The company didn’t specify the release date, but given the latest Android 11 Developer Preview has addressed the issue, we would t be surprised if the fix is included in the May 2020 security patch.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
