Google Pixel Gboard haptic feedback not working or weak after Android 13 update? Here's a potential workaround

Google Pixel devices running Android 12 recently received Android 13 software update after weeks of beta testing.

Expectedly, Android 13 update brings several new features, bug-fixes and improvements to Pixel devices.

However, an unaddressed pesky issue related to the haptic feedback while using Gboard somehow managed to slip into the stable version from the beta days.

As a result, we are seeing reports that Gboard haptic feedback is not working or has completely gone non-existent on Google Pixel phones. In other cases, it appeared buggy or inconsistent.

There are also some users complaining about the haptics being janky.

Since the haptic feedback settings are now global, Google Pixel owners can not even have different settings for individual apps. So, disabling haptics for an individual app will disable the haptic function entirely.

Apparently, the haptics feedback issue is not just limited to Gboard. It seemingly affects other apps as suggested by the popular YouTuber MKBHD as well.

That said, issues regarding ‘delayed vibrations‘ and ‘Gboard not vibrating while typing‘ have already been marked “assigned” in the Google issue tracker. It signifies that Google employees are tracking more information about the issue.

Potential workaround

Unfortunately, Google hasn’t acknowledged the issue with Gboard haptic not working on Pixel phones as a problem yet.

Regardless, we came across a workaround that might help fix the haptic feedback issue temporarily. It requires enabling ‘Touch feedback’ in ‘Accessibility > Vibration & haptics’ in your System settings.

Affected Google Pixel owners can try the workaround at least until something official comes out. We’ll keep checking the issue and update the article as and when something noteworthy comes up.
