A new challenger could soon emerge in the budget-friendly smartphone market as reports indicate the Infinix GT 20 Pro is set to launch in the US this month. While the phone’s official specifications remain under wraps, rumors and leaks suggest it could offer decent mid-range performance, positioning it as potential competition to the highly anticipated Google Pixel 8a.
The Infinix GT 20 Pro has been spotted on the FCC, Google Play Console, Geekbench, TUV, EEC, and Wi-Fi Alliance websites, leaving a clear trail of its upcoming launch. While official images are scarce, a Google Play Console listing confirms a few things: a centered display camera hole and slimmer bezels than its predecessor. Similarities with the Infinix GT 10 Pro can’t be ruled out, which means a flat display and potentially those striking, robot-esque backplate designs with bold color accents. You can also expect three rear cameras and flashy LED lighting – a common feature for gaming-focused devices.
The FCC listing hints at a 12GB RAM + 256GB storage configuration, though other variants, potentially with 8GB RAM, are also likely. The MediaTek Dimensity 8200 is the expected powerhouse for this device, paired with a 5,000mAh battery and 45W wired fast charging. A full HD+ display, 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6 support, and Android 14 round out the expected features.
However, the Infinix GT 20 Pro has a tough road ahead if it hopes to unseat Google’s upcoming budget Pixel 8a. Let’s face it, Infinix isn’t exactly a household name in the US. Americans tend to favor brands they know and trust, and that’s a big hurdle for any newcomer to clear. Plus, there’s that lingering suspicion of Chinese brands that’s been around since Huawei’s troubles. That alone could make potential buyers wary of switching over to Infinix. And lastly, let’s not forget that US carriers basically run the smartphone game. To really make a splash, Infinix needs to play nice and win over these major carriers — that’s not an easy task for a relatively unknown brand.
Overall, while the Infinix GT 20 Pro might offer some tempting features at a good price (the company thrives on aggressive pricing), it’s unlikely to pose any major competition to send the Pixel 8a scrambling. Google’s name recognition, reputation for solid software and cameras, and cozy carrier relationships mean the next device in the Pixel A series will still be the budget king, just like it’s predecessor.
