In a new marketing move by Google, the company has associated its ‘Google Pixel’ brand with Odeon cinemas to show off one of the key features of their latest Pixel 8 series, while reminding fans to keep their phones off during the movie.

Odeon cinemas’ “Turn Your Phone Off” ad starring the Google Pixel 8

As a result of the partnership, Odeon cinemas will screen an ad starring the Google Pixel 8 during the ‘pre-movie’ wait. The ad seeks to immersively recreate the experience of being in a movie theater, playing the multiple audio effects that are usually present (people talking, the sound of popcorn, or even annoying phones ringing).

Then, during the ad, these sounds will disappear one by one, revealing that the Google Pixel 8 and its ‘Audio Magic Eraser’ feature are responsible for it. At the end of the ad, the phrase ‘We don’t have Audio Magic Eraser at Odeon, so please switch off your phones’ is shown as a reminder to those present in the cinema.

The ad was produced by DCM Studios seeking a high-quality result, even using Dolby Atmos technology so that the audio effects were as immersive as possible. For those who don’t know, Dolby Atmos technology is the basis of the ‘spatial audio’ that has become so popular lately, playing multiple individual audio effects from several sources.

The ‘pre-movie ad’ will be playing in the Odeon cinemas from early November until December 31, a period during which some major movie releases are expected (Killers of the Flower Moon, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, The Marvels, Wonka, Napoleon, etc.).

What is ‘Audio Magic Eraser’?

‘Audio Magic Eraser’ is one of the most useful features of the Google Pixel 8 series. Basically, it allows you to remove unwanted background noise from video recordings, without complications. It is especially useful for ‘cleaning’ this type of noise from recordings with valuable memories, or even from recordings where we want to give prominence to someone’s voice, among other situations.

It seems to be something that Google is giving special importance to in their marketing. Recently, it was even promoted in the campaign alongside Scott Barnes and Jack Armstrong, as we covered.

For now, Audio Magic Eraser is an exclusive feature of the Pixel 8 series, and there is no news about a future rollout to previous Pixel generations. There is a possibility that it will remain an exclusive feature of the company’s latest flagships, since it is an AI-powered option that takes advantage of the power of the new TPU of the Tensor G3 chipset.

Let’s hope that Audio Magic Eraser comes to previous generation Pixel phones too so that many more users can enjoy it, although it takes a few months to happen and works a little slower than on the Pixel 8 series.
