Finding your lost phone just got easier, especially if you own a Pixel 8 or 8 Pro. Google’s Find My Device network, that will be a lifesaver for misplaced devices, comes with an extra perk for the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. But that’s not all – Pixel Buds Pro users and fans of other premium brands are in for a treat too.

The key difference lies in Google’s clever use of “specialized Pixel hardware.” This allows Find My Device to locate your Pixel 8 or 8 Pro even when it’s powered off or the battery is dead. This is a game-changer, particularly for stolen devices where thieves might try to disable tracking.

The good news extends beyond Pixel 8 users. Google is actively working with other manufacturers and chipmakers to bring this offline finding capability to more premium Android devices. This means future high-end phones from Samsung, OnePlus, and others could potentially inherit this valuable feature.

Remember those misplaced Pixel Buds you thought were lost forever? Google confirmed that the upcoming Pixel Buds Pro will receive support for the new offline Find My Device features. This is fantastic news for those who constantly worry about losing their wireless earbuds. But wait, there’s more! Major headphone brands like JBL and Sony are also on board and will be releasing similar updates “soon.”

While phone and tablet tracking gets the initial spotlight, the Find My Device network is expanding its reach. Bluetooth tracker tag makers Chipolo and Pebblebee are launching new products in May that will seamlessly integrate with the network. This will make finding misplaced keys, wallets, or anything else attached to these tags a breeze.

For now, the Find My Device network upgrade is rolling out first in the US and Canada. Users in these regions will be prompted by email and on-device alerts to activate the new features. This increased tracking power, coupled with the expansion to other devices and trackers, signifies a significant step forward in keeping tabs on our precious gadgets.
