The Google Pixel 7a, already available through Japan’s major carriers SoftBank, AU, and DOCOMO, has landed on another key player: Y!mobile. This marks a significant expansion in the Pixel brand’s accessibility within a crucial Japanese market where Google ranked as the leading smartphone brand just a year ago.

Starting February 22, customers can purchase the Google Pixel 7a in all three color options – Sea, Snow, and Charcoal – for JPY 55,440 on Y!mobile. This is approximately $369 with current conversion rates, making it significantly cheaper than the $499 launch price in the U.S. But that’s not all. To incentivize switching, Y!mobile is offering a JPY 7,200 discount on the phone, further sweetened by additional savings for those switching carriers alongside their phone purchase. You can easily get the Pixel 7a at JPY 31,320, which is a little under $210.

This wider availability on Y!mobile is particularly noteworthy considering the importance of the Japanese market to Google Pixel. Q1 2023 saw Pixel claim the top spot in smartphone sales, highlighting the brand’s growing popularity amongst Japanese consumers. Expanding the Pixel 7a’s reach through Y!mobile caters to a broader audience and potentially strengthens Google’s foothold in the region.

With reservations open now and official availability kicking off on February 22, the Pixel 7a’s arrival on Y!mobile presents a compelling opportunity for Japanese consumers seeking a versatile and competitively priced smartphone. This should help solidify Google’s leading position in the market.

The Pixel 7a isn’t the most recent smartphone from Google, and it might just be a little too late to bring the device to Y!mobile. However, this may also hint at the potential availability of the upcoming Pixel 8a and even the premium Pixel 8 and 8 Pro through the carrier.
