[Updated: Mar. 18] Google Pixel 6 & 6 Pro keeps disconnecting from Android Auto for several device owners

Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are undoubtedly the best smartphones from Google so far. Equipped with in-house developed Tensor SoC, these new handsets have plenty to offer such as upgraded cameras, a brand new design, Titan M2 security chip, and much more.

Along with these features, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are also filled with various kinds of issues. Ever since their launch, users have come across numerous bugs with these handsets.

Hopefully, Google seems to be working on some of those bugs as the upcoming December update for Pixel 6 devices mentions plenty of bug fixes.

Pixel 6 disconnecting from Android Auto

However, it seems that the streak of issues with Pixel 6 phones is not over yet. Some Pixel 6 users are now reporting a new issue with Android Auto.

Users are complaining that their Pixel 6 device keeps disconnecting from Android Auto occasionally. Here are some reports for reference:

I am using the Goolge Pixel cable sold by google to connect to my 2018 Audi MMI system with the pixel 6. So far no troubleshooting steps have fixed this. I have turned off battery savings modes, tried 4 other different cables, reset MMI system on car. Nothing has worked. Please send me information on how to send a bug report or what else i can do to fix this issue. (Source)

Same issue with pixel 6 and 21 kia eniro. Pixel 3 connected seemlessles with cable now it does not connect at all . I am using the same cable but the message says cannot connect with phone. frustrating . (Source)

Apparently, the older Pixel devices are working perfectly with Android Auto. So, it’s that just the Pixel 6 devices having this issue.

And while some have easily managed to overcome this issue by simply changing the cables, many users can’t fix it even by trying several workarounds.

Users say that they have tried unplugging and replugging the phone, trying different cables, resetting the MMI system on car, but nothing seems to work.

Google is yet to acknowledge this issue

Unfortunately, Google has not yet acknowledged this issue. We hope that this issue gets sorted out soon since users are not able to use Android Auto.

06:15 pm (IST): December update is out for Pixel 6 & 6 Pro but there’s no indication if this issue is fixed or not as the changelog does not mention anything about it.

01:04 pm (IST): A user managed to sort out the issue where Pixel 6 keeps disconnecting with Android Auto occasionally.

The workaround is to use a different cable or specifically Amazon-branded USB C to A cable. Those affected can also try connecting their Pixel 6 and Android Auto using the same cable and see if it helps.

04:35 pm (IST): Some users report that they are still not able to connect to Android Auto even after the latest January patch on Pixel 6 and version 7.2 update of Android Auto.

03:40 pm (IST): The reports (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) from users regarding this issue are still coming in and it seems that even the latest January 2022 patch did not fix this problem.

Moreover, some old Pixel phone users have also begun to complain about this bug. And still, Google has not yet acknowledged it.

06:24 pm (IST): Android Auto team said that they are working on resolving the Pixel 6 connectivity issue on Android Auto. However, no ETA for a fix has been provided.

09:24 am (IST): As it now turns out, many of the issues faced by users of Android Auto is as a result of faulty USB cables. As such, version 7.5.121104 of Android Auto seeks to address this.

According to reports, this version of the app adds a USB Startup Diagnostics tool. According to Mishaal Rahman:

The tool checks if Android is able to send data through USB, which might not be possible if the cable is connected to the wrong port in the car, the cable is incompatible/damaged, or the phone’s USB port is damaged.
