New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on August 22, 2022) follows:

Google’s much awaited Android 13 software update is laced with various useful features. It extends its focus to the theme of privacy and security, app-language preferences and so on.

But the stable Android 13 update is also no stranger to the inherent loopholes swinging along since its beta testing days.

Recent in the list is an issue related to Google Pixel 4a echo or distortion during calls. It is primarily troubling Google Pixel 4a users(1, 2, 3, 4) ever since the Android 13 update, but it’s likely others are affected too.

After updating to Android 13, I’m hearing echo(my own voice) in earphones during calls. I’m still wondering if it’s a bug or a feature. Feels weird tho.

Earpods – I hear my voice during a regular call (all is okay via Whatsapp etc.). After last update to v13, I can’t speak because mic monitoring is always on. Any solutions? Thx.

The issue is troubling many in a way that users are hearing their own voice during calls. This only happens when their devices are paired to wired headsets/earphones.

It’s also worth noting that the issue is limited to calls made through the default dialer app, but there are no echoes or distortions when using apps like WhatsApp to place calls.

Issues emerging after Android 13 update isn’t exactly news anymore. We’ve already witnessed Gboard haptic feedback functioning erratically after the update.

Google Assistant also got stuck in dark mode soon after Android 13 update.

Google Pixel 4a marked as ‘Assigned’

However, the issue with phone calls echoing users’ voice isn’t exactly new. It was also there during the beta testing days. And the status of the bug in Google’s issue tracker still appears as “Assigned”.

That said, there’s no official word from Google as to when the issue will be addressed. Unfortunately, we have also not come across a workaround that can help deal with the issue temporarily.

Hopefully, the issue with Google Pixel 4a echo during calls when using wired headphones gets acknowledged soon.

We will keep an eye on further developments and update this article accordingly. Meanwhile, check out our Google Pixel Android 13 bug tracker for more insights into other issues.
