Several Google Pixel 2 users reportedly face crashes and restarts upon trying to use the camera or speaker.

The issue is highly perplexing and is not the kind one can simply overlook. As a result, there have been plentiful reports on the official Pixel Phone forums as well as Reddit.

I’ve had my Pixel 2 since March and I’m having an issue when playing any audio out of the speakers and using Snapchat the phone makes a horrible beep sound, almost like a flatline, and then restarts, also gets really hot during this process.

The reports mostly originate from the Google Pixel 2. However, there are also many users facing similar problems on their Google Pixel 2 XL or Pixel XL.

In this issue, the camera app — be it Google Camera, Instagram or Snapchat — crashes upon clicking a photo or causes an abrupt reboot/shut down of the device. The crash can also be caused by simply opening up the app.

The camera isn’t the only trigger behind the issue though. Several users say that they face the same even when playing some random media through the speakers.

Happens almost daily now. It used to only crash/reboot when I was running a music app in the background (I use Spotify specifically) and taking a picture in either the camera or snapchat. Since upgrading to 10 it happens at any point if the battery is less <70% charged. Music or not, now it crashes and shuts off instead of rebooting.

Moreover, the problem occurs when the phone reaches a certain battery level. For most it is around or below 50%.

Users have already tried regular fixes like clearing cache of the apps that are crashing, as well performing a full factory reset, to no avail. The issue has also persisted for quite a while now with no acknowledgement from Google.

At this point, it is unclear whether the problem can even be solved via a software update. If it indeed was a software issue, Google would’ve surely fixed it by now given how crucial it is.

This points the issue towards being hardware-related. However, the user below has implied quite the contrary:

Well, this makes sense too. Let us know about your opinion on this in the comment section below.

For now, your best bet would be to get your device checked from a repair center.
