Google Photos has received a handy new feature in its latest iteration, specifically on Google Pixel phones and other devices running Android 14. Now, when you delete media from the app, you’ll be greeted by a helpful notification revealing exactly how much precious storage space you’ve reclaimed.

The prominent addition to Google Photos allows users to receive notifications specifying the amount of storage they will recover upon deleting media from the app. For Pixel users, this upgrade feels like a natural extension of their already integrated Google ecosystem, further boosting the convenience factor.

This storage-saving sidekick isn’t limited to the loyal Pixel fanbase. From our checks, any device running the latest Android 14 and sporting the updated Google Photos app gets to join the party. So, even if you’re not rocking a Pixel, you can still enjoy the perks of this thoughtful addition. This notification isn’t available on devices running Android 13, even with the same Google Photos version, so it’s likely an OS-level change and not an app update, although this is still subject to debate.

Below are screenshots of the notification before and after the update.

This is a small but impactful update, allowing us to make informed choices about our treasured photo libraries and precious storage space. Users can now have a clearer understanding of the space they stand to reclaim by deleting specific media from Google Photos, contributing to a more streamlined and organized user experience.

Whether you’re a Pixel devotee or an Android adventurer, this new feature is sure to be a welcome addition, helping you to declutter your digital photo albums and reclaim valuable space for all those future memories. The Google Photos app also recently bagged the Photo Stacks feature to help keep your photo feed organized by clubbing all similar photos taken together in a stacked layout.
