Some Google Photos users have lately been experiencing an issue where the ‘Face Grouping or Recognition’ features are not working properly.

Both face recognition and face grouping serve as valuable tools to enhance photo organization and facilitate quick retrieval of specific images.

However, the platform has been struggling recently to accurately identify faces and group them together.

Google Photos ‘Face Grouping or Recognition’ not working

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9), multiple users are having difficulties locating their photos. As per the claims, the platform is unable to recognize faces, due to which they have to manually locate the clicked snaps.

Some assert that they cannot find even a single photo under the ‘People & Pets’ section. While others contend that Google Photos can only detect and classify photos of their pets.

Sadly, even after turning off and on the relevant function, the platform fails to recognize and group faces properly. And this is undoubtedly terrible news for those who rely on the app’s image search capabilities.

My photos are not recognised by their faces and I can’t see any single people under people & pets section. Now I can’t search photos of people by their face..

A user says that despite adding a new face to their account, they are not getting the prompt that allows them to enhance their search results by approving or rejecting similar pictures.

Consequently, they’ve to manually insert different images into their designated folder. However, they are unable to add any videos in such folders.

Another argues that hardly any photo is added to the ‘People’ album nowadays.

Hey, recently I found that non of my photos(of my face) are getting to the album that auto recognizes me. What can I do? Usually it recognizes faces even when its blurry or from afar.

Those impacted have even tried clearing the app cache, signing out, and signing back in to their accounts, but to no effect. They are now requesting the developers to resolve this problem as soon as possible.

Official response

Fortunately, a Diamond Product Expert has responded to the matter asking those affected to share their feedback via the help function.

Those who have Google One subscription can directly share their thoughts with the 24/7 support team.
