Nest Hub Max is a popular smart display that combines the power of Google Assistant with an immersive visual experience. It is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a smart display that can be used for a variety of purposes.
The Nest Hub’s seamless integration with other Google products and services also helps manage multiple devices with ease. However, like any smart device, the Google Nest Hub Max is also not immune to bugs and issues.
The latest has something do with the smart display’s microphone.
Google Nest Hub Max microphone volume too low (unable to hear sound)
According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), multiple Google Nest Hub Max owners are facing an issue where the microphone volume is too low.
And as a result, users on both ends are unable to hear conversations properly during a call. Notably, the audio output level is low on recorded clips as well.
Unfortunately, one is unable to get rid of this problem by tinkering with various settings or by restarting and factory resetting their unit.
They have also noted that the issue pops up even when using their Android phone and iPad to communicate with the hub. This suggests that the problem is not specific to a particular device or operating system.
And this is without a doubt bad news for all those who make use of the device for their day-to-day activities.
A person claims to be facing this problem even after adjusting multiple configurations on the Nest app. They also found out that the Home Monitoring Features were turned off, which automatically disabled the monitoring audio.
I see there is an on/off option for HOME MONITORING AUDIO. But there is no ability for the user to adjust the level of HOME MONITORING AUDIO. A couple months ago Support had told me to wait for the next firmware update, of which there have been at least one since then. Still no fix.

Another user alleges that the volume levels are significantly low when monitoring the camera. They can also faintly hear sounds when placing their ear next to the phone’s speaker.
The issue has been persistent for the past few months and understandably, those affected have taken to web forums to air their grievances.
It’s noteworthy that the issue was officially acknowledged by Google two weeks ago and stated that they were working diligently to address it, yet the problem remains unresolved.
People are now once again requesting the developers to address these concerns as soon as possible.
In the meantime, we will keep an eye on the issue where the microphone volume is too low on the Google Nest Hub Max and update this story accordingly.
