Google’s ‘Nest’ family is made up of multiple products aimed at the home automation segment. One of the most popular products in the catalog is the Google Nest Hub.

The Nest Hub is a kind of ‘smart display’ that works like a Hub to control all the other smart devices in your home. You can also use the screen to browse the web, watch videos and more.

However, according to multiple reports, Google Nest Hub is currently blocking ‘self-harm’ or ‘offensive’ content playback on YouTube for some users.

Google Nest Hub blocking ‘self-harm’ or ‘offensive’ content playback on YouTube

Currently, some Google Nest Hubs owners are unable to view certain YouTube videos that have been deemed offensive, suicidal or may result in self-harm.

The issue causes playlists to freeze when they reach a video that has these tags. The device only offers the option to ‘Go back’ when trying to play those videos.

Whenever I’m autoplaying videos and the next video on the queue contains the “The following content may contain suicide or self-harm topics” disclaimer, the only option is to “Go back.” I don’t have parental controls enabled and my YouTube account isn’t restricted either. What gives?

Can’t get past the “The following content has been identified by the YouTube community as inappropriate or offensive to some audiences.” screen when I try to watch some videos on my Nest Hub. Anybody got a fix?

The issue occurs even when users have all parental control options turned off. Also, it appears that other Nest devices are affected as well, such as the Google Nest Mini speaker.

My Nest Mini is skipping songs that contain explicit lyrics about suicide. Normally on my phone, I can press confirm, but my Nest just skips the song regardless of what I do. Any ideas?

Some potential workarounds

Here are some potential workarounds that could help you resolve the issue. First, make sure to turn off the ‘restricted mode’ in the YouTube music account settings too.

In case you are still experiencing the issue, manually configure the ‘Filters and Digital Wellness settings’ from the Home app so everyone can listen to unrestricted content.
