New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on June 20, 2023) follows:

Google Nest Cam and Doorbell have gained popularity among users as reliable smart home devices that offer enhanced security and convenience.

These devices enable homeowners to monitor their properties remotely and receive notifications whenever activity is detected.

Google Nest Cam & Doorbell live view ‘offline’ but still uploading events

However, a frustrating issue has emerged for some users, causing them to encounter difficulties when attempting to view video footage associated with the received notifications (1,2,3,4,5,6,7).

The problem arises when users receive notifications for detected activity, such as a person spotted near their property.

Excited to see the corresponding video, they open the Google Home app to view the footage but are met with disappointment.

Instead of the expected video playback, they are confronted with a never-ending loading symbol or an error message stating, ‘This video isn’t available yet. Check back later’.

The most frustrating aspect of this problem is that despite the Google Nest Cam and Doorbell devices appearing as ‘offline’ in the Home app, they still keep uploading events and send notifications to users.

Camera has been working fine for a few works since I installed it. All of a sudden today it went offline but is still uploading events so it’s only the live view that appears to be affected. No other camera on my network has a problem so it’s not internet or WiFi related. I’m currently away so it’s the worst time it could happen.

Today, the doorbell and one camera decided to show offline in the app meaning I am unable to stream live video, the remaining camera is unaffected (furthest camera away from router). I still get notifications if someone presses doorbell or walks into camera view but they’re both offline.

It has been discovered that the problem primarily affects devices running software version 1.67. Users who have not yet upgraded to this version, particularly those on v1.65, do not experience the same difficulties.

This suggests that the problem lies within the software update and not with the hardware itself.

Issue allegedly acknowledged

Apparently, Google is aware of this issue and is actively working on a solution. While a specific timeline for the release of a fix is not provided, a resolution is expected soon.

Potential workaround

In the meantime, a user has offered a temporary workaround that seems to fix this issue. All you need to do is ‘factory reset’ your Google Nest and Doorbell:

Same here, doorbell started showing offline yesterday. A hard reset fixed it for me, at least for a while. Overnight my 2 nest cam battery’s went showing offline. All 3 on 1.67 software.

It is important to note that this workaround only provides a temporary solution, and users may need to repeat the steps if the issue persists.

If the aforementioned workaround helped fix the issue, do let us know in the comments down below. Also, we will be updating this space once the problem is resolved so stay tuned for more information.
