[Updated] Google Images constantly crashing in Firefox for some users, issue under investigation

Google Images is a widely utilized platform for searching and browsing through vast collections of visual content. However, some Firefox users have been facing a crashing issue when using Google Images.

Numerous complaints (1, 2, 3, 4) have emerged, predominantly from Linux users, that suggest that Firefox tabs are constantly crashing when searching for images on Google.

While the majority of affected users are on Linux, there is a possibility that users on other operating systems are also troubled by this problem.

Here are some reports for reference:

I’ve tried two different browsers, Firefox 90 and 113, and Google Images crashes no matter what terms are put in. Changed settings, disabled plugins, extensions, cleared cookies, cache, tried private browsing, log out, nothing is working. I did this in both 90 and 113, with no difference made. Every time I try to use Google Images, the tab crashes. (Source)

I think it is firefox mainly at fault. Works on opera, vivaldi, etc. Just fails on firefox and only some firefox installations at that. Plus, firefox is getting a segfault. That is totally its fault, programs should not segfault regardless of what web pages they are trying to display. (Source)

This unexpected behavior has disrupted the browsing experience for many users, hindering their ability to access and view images seamlessly.

Apparently, this is happening after Google made some changes to its image search page. You can check out the possible explanation of this glitch here.

Thankfully, Google has taken a note of this issue and they’ve confirmed that their team is actively investigating it. However, they didn’t provide any ETA for the fix.

Unfortunately, we haven’t come across any potential workaround that can help you resolve this glitch. And you’ll have to wait until devs at Google fix it.

03:18 pm (IST): A Google product expert has confirmed that this issue has been fixed in the latest version of Firefox.
