Google Home app removing Hive thermostat from allocated room issue under investigation, but no ETA for fix

Initially released in July of 2013, the Google Home app allows users to control and manage several smart devices such as lights, bulbs, thermostats, and much more all from a single app.

With support for thousands of devices, Google Home has become the go-to app for those looking to control their home and avoid manufacturer apps.

That being said, Google Home users recently reported that they were unable to add some LG Soundbar units.

And now it looks like Hive Thermostat owners are unable to add their device to Google Home after they were removed from the allocated room.

Many say that Google Home keeps on removing their Hive products due to reasons unknown. Some say that they are getting an error where it says cannot contact Google whenever they try adding their Hive devices.

Users said they tried relinking their devices and even clearing and reinstalling the Google Home app but nothing works.

Just wanted to chime in and say I’ve had exactly the same issue for months. The hive thermostat and hot water control are always shown in Google home, but after a few weeks they get dropped from the house and room, so get moved to unassigned devices at the bottom of the screen. I move them back to the correct house and room, but a few weeks later the same thing happens. Good to hear the engineers are working on it now.

The setup is Google Home, with Hive products (lights, thermostat, and hot water). App is on both android and iOS. Over the last few months, the home app has been removing the thermostat and hot water from their allocated room, they appear at the bottom under not allocated to a home. Today the same thing happened. So, I went to add back in, as usual, and Google Home reports that both are offline (checked Hive app and they are online). Tried to move them anyway back to their allocated room and as I go through the wizard I get “There was a problem communicating with Google, please wait a few moments”.

Thankfully, a Community Specialist commented on the Google Home issue with Hive Thermostats and said that the concerned engineering team was investigating the issue. However, did they not give any ETA.

A few days later, the Community Specialist said that it was getting fixed for some, but others kept reporting that the issue still exists, even after updating the app and being on the same version.

We hope the issue Google fixes the Hive Thermostat issue at the earliest since it is wintertime and many are unable to control their device from the comfort of their beds.
