Google Home users with linked Fitbit devices just received a handy new option that now lets Google Assistant conveniently read out your daily fitness and sleep stats.
The new “Get Wellness Info” routine can be found within the “Automations” tab of the Google Home app. This cleverly links with either Google Fit or directly with your Fitbit, opening the door to integrating fitness stats seamlessly into your existing Google Home routines.
For instance, you could customize your “Goodnight” routine to include a summary of your daily steps, activity level, and sleep details from the previous night. This addition comes relatively late, arriving three years after Google Assistant first gained Fitbit integration. But of course, it’s never too late for such handy additions.
Here’s what you can track:
- Step count
- Distance traveled
- Calories burned
- Days exercised out of the week
- Hours slept
- Sleep start time
According to 9to5Google, the feature seems to be rolling out widely through the Google Home’s “Personal Routines” section, but I’m yet to see the new “Get Wellness Info” routine show up in my Automations tab.
Would I use this? Well, as someone who values staying informed about my health, I appreciate this new level of accessibility. A quick voice summary before bed could be a helpful way to reflect on my activity levels or sleep patterns. It adds a nice touch of personalization to my overall Google Home experience. But of course, whether it’s truly valuable depends entirely on your individual needs and preferences.
