Original story (published on March 2, 2023) follows:

US Cellular recently confirmed that it will no longer be available on Google Fi, leaving T-Mobile as the only carrier following the merger with Sprint.

Even though Fi is losing the carrier, users will still be able to roam on US Cellular for free in areas where T-Mobile network is spotty or non-existent.

But in the middle of all this, there are reports of some Google Fi users who are facing an issue where 2FA SMS are not coming through to their devices.

2FA SMS codes not coming through for some Google Fi users

According to multiple reports, 2FA SMS codes are not arriving for some Google Fi users. This means that they are unable to log into any account where they’ve set up 2FA.

2FA codes not received

Since yesterday I have been receiving 2FA codes by text several hours late. I am not sure what is causing this or how to fix it. It is happening for every website I have tried to log in to.

Issues receiving text messages (iPhone)

Not sure if it’s just an issue on my end but I have missed 6 different 2FA text messages. I talked to Fi customer support and they noted that there is a known issue with this matter that is new and they will get back to me with a solution via email.

The situation is quite severe because those affected haven’t been able to use even their bank accounts and other important services.

You’re not the only one. Unable to do urgent banking. Completely unacceptable.

I don’t know if they aren’t delivered.. or just substantially late. Example I had to get 2FA yesterday.. I tried 4 times yesterday. They were delivered today.
