One of the best alternatives to Microsoft Word is Google Docs. Being operable online, it saves a lot of space on the disk and allows documents to be accessed from anywhere.

Multiple users with just a link can view and edit the documents. Products from Google are mostly updated at the server-side and users don’t really have to worry about updating them.

This has so far ensured a smooth workflow and Google Docs rarely prompt an error. But that doesn’t mean it won’t ever have any bugs.

In fact, Google Docs users recently stumbled upon an error that appears to be affecting multiple accounts, at least as per the emerging reports.

What makes this issue weird is that it restricts users from accessing their own Google Docs documents, throws an error that the access has expired.

I tried opening a personal google docs of mine that I own, not any of my other accounts, but it’s saying my access has expired and that if the problem keeps occurring to contact the document owner. but I am the document owner. Please help, I could try copy-pasting everything into a new document and get back to you guys

The issue didn’t go away even after running troubleshooting steps, from restarting Docs to ensuring a stable internet connection.

But owing to the increasing number of reports, one of Google forums representatives took notice of this issue. Here’s a transcript of what he said.

Hi all,

I have escalated this issue to the Docs team, and the engineers are currently investigating it. Hang in there as best you can. I’ll let you know as soon as I receive any further updates.

In case of an encounter, the option one is left with is to somehow copy-paste the content to a new doc as, after this error, the existing document gets compromised.

The issue is under investigation and all we hope is that Google quickly runs some checks and comes up with a patch.

Any updates and new developments in this regard will be posted here.
