In December 2023, Google launched the Pixel Diagnostics app accessible by typing the code *#*#7287#*#* in the dialer. This app provides a quick diagnosis of the current status of your device, and it is advisable to use it before and after repair.
At the time of release, the official support page (archived version) said that the Pixel Diagnostics App is only available in countries where there is official support for Pixel phones, which are USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and European countries or regions with official Google Pixel availability. However, there are reports of people from these regions that still don’t have access to the app as I write this.
As of today, the official support page has been updated to reflect that the Pixel Diagnostics app is limited to the US. This explains the reports (1,2,3) about the app not working for some Pixel users.
We did some internal checks on our Pixel devices and found conflicting results. The Diagnostics app works on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in India. One of the devices is running the latest stable Android 14 QPR2 while the other is on the latest Android 14 QPR3 beta.
As for the Pixel 7a running the latest Android 15 DP1, this app isn’t supported. All attempts to access it on the 7a resulted in a warning that the Pixel Diagnostics Tool is only available in the US for now. Below is a screenshot showing this message on Google’s latest budget phone.
It’s unclear why the Diagnostics Tool works on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro but doesn’t work on the Pixel 7a yet all are official units sold in India. It’s possible Google is silently expanding availability of the feature beginning with its latest smartphones, so be sure to check if the tool works on your Pixel phone, be it in India or any other region outside the US. We have a simple guide on how to enable it here.
