Google has updated its Contacts app for Pixel and other Android devices, introducing a streamlined system for assigning custom ringtones to individual contacts. This new feature offers a significant improvement over the previous, more cumbersome process.
A dedicated “Contact ringtones” page now resides within the Contacts app’s “Fix & Manage” tab. This page centralizes the ringtone customization process, offering these key benefits:
-
Clear overview: See a list of contacts who already have personalized ringtones.
Easy assignment: Quickly assign unique ringtones to any contact of your choosing.
Pixel Sounds integration: Seamlessly choose ringtones from the Pixel Sounds app.
Custom audio import: Use your own audio files for a truly personalized touch.

It’s worth noting that the “Fix & Manage” tab might soon be ramped with a new UI and name too. Previously, changing a contact’s ringtone involved navigating to the individual contact’s page and delving into several menus. Google’s update makes this process significantly faster and more intuitive.
This new ringtone management feature is rolling out via a server-side update for Google Contacts version 4.27 or later. Users may need to force-stop the Contacts app for the new page to appear. TheSpAndroid spotted the release first.
The addition of the “Contact ringtones” page reflects Google’s ongoing focus on improving the user experience on Pixel devices. This update provides a welcome convenience, allowing users to quickly personalize their phones with distinctive ringtones. I mostly skip setting up custom ringtones because it involved diving into a bunch of menus. But now that Google has made it easy to set up, you bet I’m going to add custom ringtones for my closest contacts.
